  • Jorge Masvidal has had a brilliant run this year
  • He has claimed he can defeat two-time champions, McGregor
  • McGregor is set to make his UFC comeback in January

Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) star Jorge Masvidal has claimed that everyone is going to feel "sorry" for Conor McGregor if the two faced off at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) match.

In the last few years, McGregor has seen himself in the middle of several controversies off the ring that have threatened to ruin his image of being a legend in the MMA. The Irishman, who has not triumphed in a fight since November 2016, still is the only fighter to hold simultaneously two UFC belts and broke pay-per-view records by boxing Floyd Mayweather Jr.

McGregor, who is still one of MMA’s most talked-about fighters, is set to make his Octogen comeback in January, where he will fight Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. To participate in the combat, McGregor has decided to change his category and on Jan. 18, he will be fighting in the 170-pound division.

Speaking at the Jim Rome Show, Masvidal spoke about a possible fight against McGregor in 2020.

"He gets melted. What the world is looking for him is for him to suffer and get chastised for some of the things that he’s done in public. Everybody’s going to feel sorry for him after the fight, I can tell you that much. They’ll forgive him all after the fight I can promise you that. This baptism’s gonna be a little extra for Mr. Conor," Masvidal said.

For the first-ever time, Masvidal looks to have an upper hand over a fighter like McGregor. Coming off back-to-back losses and not competing in 2018, the 35-year-old turned tables around in style and made 2019 a memorable year for himself. Fighting Darren Till in the latter's home country of England, Masvidal knocked his opponent out before he took out Ben Askren with a flying knee in five seconds and then defeated Diaz at UFC 244.

Speaking about a possible clash against McGregor, Masvidal said he is certain that the fight will soon take place. He wants to fight Conor not because of money but for the reason that the latter is a two-time champion and it would be great to defeat him.

"Obviously, Conor fight is out there, the Mayweather fight is out there, they’re saying they’re bringing him on over to Zuffa Boxing. The Usman fight is out there. I’m the golden ticket at combat sports, especially at 170 pounds. You can’t move in that weight class without mentioning me or having to ask permission to the mighty Gamebred. And it’s just the truth. I might come off ignorant and arrogant, but I’ve been working my whole life for this, to get to this position where now I can be involved in the biggest fights possible and I can rewrite the history books. Because whoever has the belt when I’m done with Conor, that’s whose head’s getting chopped off."

"And of course, I’d like to fight Conor. Not just because he brings in a lot of cash and eyeballs to the sport, but he’s a two-time champion. He’s one of the few to do it and he did it outstandingly. Both guys that he defeated for the belt, he did it with no pressure, no resistance, nothing. So it would be an honor to fight with him," Masvidal added during the Jim Rome show.
