It might be hard to find a more impressive goal than the one Thomas Delaney recently scored in practice. The Danish midfielder executed a phenomenal scorpion kick Tuesday while training with the national team.

Delaney’s first shot attempt was blocked by the goalkeeper, but that only made for an even more impressive second effort. Before the blocked shot could hit the ground, the 29-year-old leaned forward and knocked the ball into the net. The goal left the goalkeeper stunned.

Video of the goal has gone viral.

Delaney isn't known for his scoring prowess. In 11 starts for German club Borussia Dortmund in 2020-21, the defensive midfielder has scored just one goal.

Delaney was practicing with Denmark, which faces Austria on Wednesday in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture. The Denmark national team has yet to lose in its quest to qualify for the World Cup. Delaney has 55 caps.

He debuted with FC Copenhagen before moving to Bundesliga club Werder Bremen. Delaney joined Borussia Dortmund in June 2018.
