KEY POINTS

  • Royal Rumble 2020 will take place on Jan. 26 in Houston
  • Seth Rollins won the Royal Rumble in 2019 in Arizona
  • The upcoming edition could see Strowman fight for the title against Nakamura

With Royal Rumble 2020 just around the corner, reports have emerged regarding two major title matches being added to the event.

It is understood that the addition is being made specifically for the Smackdown Women’s Championship and Intercontinental Championship.

According to a report in 411 Mania, most likely it will be Shinsuke Nakamura defending his title against Braun Strowman, while Lacey Evans could be facing off against Bayley. Even though both these combats are highly possible, but the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Company has not given out nay confirmation yet.

The Strowman vs Nakamura contest was rumored to happen earlier at the TLC 2019 but the former had to pull out due to an injury. The fight will be interesting considering Strowman has never won a singles title in his WWE career so far.

It is also surprising that even though Strowman has been a two-time WWE RAW Tag Team Champion, he has never been given a mid-card title up to now. However, that could change in one match if Strowman is put up against Nakamura in the ring. The fight could be a great opportunity for Nakamura as he has worked with "big men" in the past.

Not many are aware that back in the early 2000s, Nakamura took on Brock Lesnar at New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The fight happened when Brock Lesnar had left WWE company for the first time and before he was crowned the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion.

As far as Lesnar is concerned, the WWE Company is yet to reveal his opponents for the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, while they have confirmed that the WWE champion will fight in those events.

While there have been a series of rumored opponents for Brock Lesnar ahead of the 2020 Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, it has been reportedly confirmed that Cain Velasquez and Tyson Fury will surely not fight Lesnar. Since the reigning champion is one of WWE’s most marketable superstars, Paul Heyman and Co will certainly bring out something huge for him.
