"The Vampire Diaries"
"The Vampire Diaries" will kick off their fourth season on Thursday, Oct. 11. CW

On Thursday, Oct. 11, "The Vampire Diaries" will be heading into its fourth season on the CW...but will the show live to see another season after that? At the Toronto International Film Festival "Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev had some interesting things to say about the fate of the hit CW series.

As "The Vampire Diaries" heads into season four, Elena finds herself transitioning into a vampire, Damon has his heartbroken after Elena chooses his brother Stefan over him, and nobody but Bonnie realizes that Klaus is now occupying Tyler's body. The new season definitely seems to be full of some juicy drama, and according to Nina Dobrev, if the show doesn't maintain the killer story lines, then she doesn't want the show to go on.

"I always like it when a show ends on a good note," Dobrev told MTV News at the Toronto International Film Festival. "I don't like anything to be dragged out past the point of quality 'cause I think you can only tell a story so long until it gets watered down."

So, is Dobrev hinting at the demise of "The Vampire Diaries" in the near future?

"I think every show that I've enjoyed has made it to the sixth season and put a conclusion to it," she explained.

But "Vampire Diaries" fans shouldn't fear a season six conclusion for their beloved series.

"I don't know," Dobrev continued. "We'll see. It all depends on the story."

Fortunately the season four story lines are wicked intense! In fact, the CW just released a season four description for "The Vampire Diaries," and it has even more juicy spoilers to hold you over until Oct. 11.

Season Four begins with the knowledge that everything is in transition. Elena faces her worst nightmare when she awakens after the accident and finds she must now endure the terrifying transition to become a vampire - or face certain death. Stefan and Damon are torn even further apart over how to help Elena adjust to a life she never wanted, and everyone has to cope with the chaos Alaric created when he outed the vampires and their supporters to the Mystic Falls Council and local church leaders. Despite everything that has happened to them, as Elena and her friends enter into the final stretch of high school before graduation sends them off on different paths, they feel the bond to their home town of Mystic Falls take on a deeper meaning when a new mysterious villain is introduced who seems intent on destroying it.

"The Vampire Diaries" has a drama filled season ahead of them when they return to the CW on Thursday, Oct. 11.
