In a letter to the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission, which must approve the transaction, 11 state attorneys general said the merger would lead to better service and faster data speeds.

Led by McDaniel and Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, the letter also asked for merger-specific conditions to protect competition.

Attorneys general from Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming were among the others to sign the letter.
