A Detroit man was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse after allowing his nine-year-old daughter to be his designated driver late one drunken night.

The father and daughter were caught on video when they pulled up to a gas station and visited a convenience store there. Video shows the girl pulling up next to a gas pump, and later shows her intoxicated father explaining the circumstances to someone inside the store.

Nine years old, nine, dad drinking. Listen, we're leaving and she's driving.

The drunk dad bought his daughter a snack and continued to sing (or slur) her praises to anyone who would listen.

She drives us here. I swear to you. Nine years old, in the truck, we're here. She drove all the way here.

And I parked, the girl piped in.

Apparently, no one at the gas station thought to detain the father and daughter, as they drove off (with the girl at the wheel) shortly afterwards.

Someone driving behind the van called 911 shortly after 3 a.m., ostensibly to report the underage driver.

When the 911 dispatcher asked the caller if the vehicle was staying on the road, the caller said, Yeah, she's driving pretty good. I'm telling ya, I can't believe it.

When police pulled the car over, the girl did not understand why they had been stopped.

I was driving good, she reportedly said.

Her father was charged with fourth and second degree child abuse. He refused a breathalyzer test.
