ABC just aired a rerun of “Modern Family” Season 8.

On Wednesday, July 5, Season 8, episode 16, titled “Basketball,” was once again released at 9 p.m. EDT. The original episode aired on March 8 on ABC, and it is unclear why the network decided to air this particular episode a day after 4th of July. By the looks of it, the network did not have anything lined up for the 9 p.m. time slot, and “Modern Family” was a viable option since the sitcom usually airs on a Wednesday.

ABC released their official fall lineup for 2017 to 2018 in May and revealed “Modern Family” Season 9 will still occupy the same time slot. However, the official premiere date for “Modern Family” Season 9 hasn’t been announced yet. It is also unclear how many episodes Season 9 will have. What is only known is that the award-winning show has been renewed until Season 10.

Prior to the renewal, “Modern Family” executive producer Steve Levitan told Deadline that he is thinking about the current political landscape in the United States and how it could affect the series. “How is our political movement going to affect our taste in comedy? It’s so much a part of our life now in a really big way that I wonder if it will seep in more in next season with what we’re all going through,” he said.

In 2009, “Modern Family” aired its first episode, and the show introduced gay couple Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler-Ferguson). Seeing gay couples on television at that time was relatively new territory. Tyler-Ferguson said of his experience, “I grew up very closeted. And I always thought how great it would be if I could turn on my television and find someone who’s not just gay, but in a gay relationship. That would have made my coming out a lot easier.”

“Modern Family” Season 9 will continue to feature Ariel Winter as Alex, Sarah Hyland as Haley, Sofia Vergara as Gloria, Julie Bowen as Claire, Ed O’Neill as Jay, Ty Burrell as Phil, Rico Rodriguez as Manny, Nolan Gould as Luke, Jeremy Maguire as Joe and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily.
