Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith will star in “After Earth,” a sci-fi movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan. In the movie, Will and Jaden Smith play a father and son who are stranded on an Earth that humans have fled.

“After Earth,” scheduled for a summer 2013 release, features Will Smith as Cypher and Jaden Smith as Kitai Rage. Will Smith hopes to continue his series of hits like “Men in Black 3,” “Hancock,” “I Am Legend” and “Hitch.”

“After Earth” will be the second movie with Will Smith and Jaden Smith together, following 2009's “The Pursuit of Happyness.”

While Smith has a consistent box office record, Shyamalan has hit a rough patch. His breakthrough, “The Sixth Sense,” tagged him as an up-and-coming director, but even though he's had success since then with “Signs” and “The Last Airbender,” other films, “The Happening” and “Lady in the Water,” have been disappointments.

The trailer gives a glimpse into the story of “After Earth” as the father and son crash-land onto a planet, revealed to be an Earth that humans have fled from after a series of events nearly 1,000 years before. According to the official synopsis, “With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash.” In the trailer, there is no sign of aliens but plenty of animals and dense jungles with an injured Smith giving his son a lesson on what fear is.

The trailer is below. “After Earth” will hit theaters on June 7, 2013.
