“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 released an official synopsis for the new season and it was filled with juicy spoilers. The Season 2 premiere will pick up right where the finale left off -- with Phil Coulson drawing cryptic etchings, Leo Fitz in a coma and Grant Ward in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody after it was revealed that he was a double agent for Hydra. Expect “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 to expand on all of these storylines and more. Check out what’s going on with the show’s core characters:

Coulson’s Being Watched

Melinda May is still watching Coulson, even though he now knows about Project T.A.H.I.T.I. and Nick Fury has gone off the grid. May still doesn’t know how Coulson is going to react to the GH.325 serum, and it looks like the side effects are finally coming. Last season ended with Coulson making some strange drawings in the middle of the night and it looks like May is going to be concerned about the etchings. It seems like Coulson is writing in an alien language, but it isn’t clear if Coulson even knows what it means.

Fitzsimmons Is In Danger

We already know that there is a possible love triangle, but Fitzsimmons might not have a professional relationship anymore. Fitz’s coma will damage his cognitive functions and it isn’t clear if he’ll ever recover. Without full control of his brain, he might not even be able to work with S.H.I.E.L.D. as an engineer. For Simmons, this is going to be a painful adjustment. The two function as a duo and it’s going to be heard for the biochemist to work without her partner.

Lance Hunter Joins The Team

Lance Hunter will be introduced as a new S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that Coulson has added to the team. Because Coulson is rebuilding the organization, Hunter didn’t rise through training the way most agents do. His story could mimic Skye’s unconventional training but it sounds like Hunter is a little less trustworthy. He is described as “a dashing mercenary sharp shooter with a quick wit.” Some of that sharp could be helpful to Coulson, but it could also mean that Hydra is still trying to infiltrate the organization. Don’t expect to discover Hunter’s true motives very soon, though. Actor Nick Blood was added as a series regular, so it looks like this storyline will carry through most of Season 2.

Skye’s Parents

Skye also has GH.325 in her system, and she could start displaying Coulson's symptoms soon. However, it sounds like she is more concerned about her mysterious parents. Kyle MacLachlan was confirmed as Skye’s father (joining a slew of guest stars), so most fans knew that Skye’s parents would be explored. The young agent is going to still struggle with her identity as a 0-8-4, “an object of unknown origin.” Skye doesn’t know what her parents are, but she is wondering if there is something different about her because of them. If her parents are evil, could that mean that there are dark forces inside her?

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 will premiere on Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC. Do you have any theories on Skye’s parents or Coulson’s etchings? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
