Air France flight 447 that crashed into the Atlantic on June 1 may have broken apart before crashing according to reports from Brazilian newspaper, O Estado de Sao Paulo.

Preliminary exams on the first 16 bodies show the bodies arrived either naked or with minimal clothing indicating the clothes could have been pulled off with strong wind. Investigators will determine where in the plane the victims were sitting to help determine how the aircraft possibly broke apart, the paper said.

Almost all of the bodies had multiple fractures, but no burns were found on any, the paper reported.

No water was found in victims’ lungs, which would indicate drowning, meaning a death following the fall of the aircraft, Estado said.

The Bodies were found 53 miles apart, which could also indicate the Airbus A330-200 broke up before reaching the ocean, Estado reported.
