An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 shook Anchorage and other parts of south central Alaska Wednesday morning.

The quake jolted the region at 10:19 a.m. occurred with a depth of approximately 31 miles, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.

The quake did not generate a tsunami, according to the center.

Alaska is seismically active and has frequent earthquakes, although most are too small or too remote to be felt.
