All six charges of sexual assault against British singer-songwriter Rex Orange County have been dropped after an investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The artist, whose real name is Alexander O'Connor, was charged in a U.K. court in October. His three-day trial was set to begin on Jan. 3, 2023.

O'Connor was accused of assaulting a woman six separate times in London over two days last June. After pleading not guilty to all six charges, O'Connor was released on unconditional bail.

Findings of the investigation revealed "that there is no merit in this case going to trial," the singer said in a statement, noting that the only evidence against him was the accuser's account, which was contradicted by video footage and the testimony of another person present.

"Not guilty verdicts were entered to all the charges," O'Connor wrote. "I have always denied these allegations and am grateful that the independent evidence has cleared me of any wrongdoing. I have never assaulted anyone and I do not condone violence or abusive behavior of any kind." The statement follows below in full:

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed to the BBC that the charges had been dropped.

"CPS prosecutors have a duty to keep each case under review," they said. "Having carefully considered all the evidence, our legal test for a prosecution was no longer met and so we will not be continuing a prosecution."

"We will always seek to prosecute sexual offences, where our legal test is met, no matter how challenging."

O'Connor was in the midst of his "WHO CARES?" tour when the allegations were brought up, leading him to cancel his remaining dates in Australia, New Zealand, and Europe, and marking his last performance in the U.K. as a show on August 13 at Gunnersbury Park in London.

Announcing the news on his social media channels on July 2, O'Connor wrote: "It is with a great deal of sadness to announce that due to unforeseen personal circumstances, I am having to spend some time at home this year and I will not be able to continue with touring as planned.

O'Connor, as Rex Orange County, is best known for his 2017 song "Loving Is Easy." He later featured on two songs on Tyler, the Creator's 2017 album "Flower Boy," which catapulted him into the global lens.

O'Connor has released one mixtape and three studio albums, the latest of which, "Who Cares?," came out in March.
