A leptocephalus, flat and transparent larva of the eel, has been spotted and was captured on video.

The transparent nature and its swimming ability have made leptocephali rare organisms to be spotted and hence the study on such larva has been rather slow.

Leptocephali remain in the larva stage for 3-12 months before growing up to be a full eel.
