“Minecraft: Story Mode” might be coming out sooner than expected, as a listing from Amazon suggested that the title could be coming out on Oct. 27 for North America. The game has been anticipated by fans due to the popularity of the PC game “Minecraft” and some of Telltale Games’ high-profile releases like “The Walking Dead” or “Fables: A Wolf Among Us.”

While Telltale has not confirmed the release date shown in Amazon, the listing did give some details about the physical copy of the game. Buying the disc will give players the first episode of the game and will also let them download the next four episodes once they have been released.

Although this approach is new from Telltale, it is not something that has not been done before. Capcom’s episodic horror game “Resident Evil: Revelations 2” used the exact same format as the one listed for “Minecraft: Story Mode.”

Telltale usually releases each episode of a game digitally before announcing a physical copy that will collect them all. Games that have followed this format include “Fables: A Wolf Among Us” and “The Walking Dead.” It seems like “Minecraft: Story Mode” will be the first game from the company that will get a physical and digital release at the same time.

“Minecraft: Story Mode” also does a number of new things that have not been done in a Telltale video game. Players will be able to choose a lead character for once, instead of following the story of an already chosen protagonist.

Very few games have achieved the popularity that “Minecraft” has massed over the past few years. The sandbox title has been constantly updated with numerous downloadable content packs, usually featuring popular characters like “The Simpsons.” The game proved to be popular enough to get ported to consoles.

Aside from making an adventure game about “Minecraft,” Telltale has also worked on other licensed video games like “Back to the Future,” “Jurassic Park” and “Game of Thrones,” which will be getting a second “season” soon. The company will also be making games with Marvel comic characters in them, with an unspecified 2017 release date, as reported by GameSpot.

"Minecraft: Story Mode" will be coming out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, Mac, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will also be available on iOS and Android.
