Not even polar bears can bear the polar vortex.

Anana, a polar bear at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, didn’t feel like venturing outside Monday.

“Anana has the option to stay inside, and in frigid weather, she often takes it!” the zoo’s Twitter account said in response to a Twitter user’s question.

But the polar vortex, which has pushed arctic air further south than normal, has led to frigid temperatures throughout the Midwest, including Chicago, where thousands of flights were canceled Monday and Tuesday and temperatures were near or below zero.

The cold proved to be too much for Anana on Monday, when she stayed inside in an indoor climate between 40 and 50 degrees, according to the Associated Press. But the zoo’s Twitter account said the bear braved the cold on Tuesday.
