The Nokia Lumia 520 is the last smartphone anyone would ever think could run Android Nougat. It is two years old, it houses a dual-core 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM and it’s a Windows Phone. However, XDA developer, thinhx2 booted the latest Android 7.1 Nougat onto the dinosaur device with little issue.

The developer shared his results in a short video clip on YouTube, showing the device running the CyanogenMod 14.1 custom ROM, which is based on Android 7.1 Nougat. He confirmed several functional features, including the touchscreen, display, vibrant, storage, battery and charge, buttons, sound and multi-touch.

The developer also confirmed Android 7.1 can run on the Nokia Lumia 525, which includes 1GB of RAM, confirming similar functionality and a smoother Nougat user experience due to its high RAM capacity.

The Nokia Lumia 520 and Nokia Lumia 525 launched running Windows 8 and have upgraded to Windows 8.1. However, Microsoft has yet to roll out Windows 10 software for the smartphones, having detailed their updates for several months.
