Apple’s App Store Hits 25 Billion Downloads Apple

The tech giant Apple celebrated a major milestone this weekend - 25 billion apps downloads for all the iDevices.

The California-based company announced the good news on its official Web site with a colorful banner, saying A billion thanks. 25 times over. The App Store has reached 25 billion downloads. Thanks for getting us there.

Since Feb. 13, Apple had been holding a 25 Billion Apps Countdown Promotion. The winner of the contest will be the customer who downloaded the app that pushed Apple over the top. Most appealingly, the lucky dog will get the grand prize - a $10,000 gift certificate that can be used in iTunes Store, App Store and iBooks Store - and the person's name will be listed online within 10 days after the end of the promotion period.

Any customer who downloaded an app would be entered into the contest, automatically. And even if they didn't purchase any apps, only by filling out an online entry form could fulfill the requirement for the contest. However, so far the winner hasn't been announced. Nobody also knows which app will go up in history as the 25 billionth download. The 10 billionth app download has now become well-known - Paper Glider.

Apple's App Store had crossed 15 billion apps downloads last July, whereas Google had passed 10 billion app downloads last December. To celebrate the milestone, the search engine giant had offered selected apps for 10 cents for a limited time.
