A week after its worldwide release on major U.S. carriers like AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, Apple’s sixth generation iPhone, the iPhone 5, is now set to arrive on a number of regional carriers starting Friday.
According to a PCMAG report, the list of regional carriers that are going to start selling the new flagship smartphone included Cellcom, nTelos, Appalachian Wireless, C Spire, GCI and Leap Wireless' Cricket Communications. US Cellular, the country’s seventh-largest carrier which has never sold any Apple device, was not included in the list.
Among the six carriers, Cellcom, nTelos and Appalachian will offer the iPhone 5 for $50 less than the major carriers in the country – $149 (16GB), $249 (32GB) and $349 (64GB). While C Spire and GCI are yet to announce the price listings, Cricket will sell the device for a price starting at $499.99 off-contract.
"We've seen the anticipation for iPhone 5 grow and are excited to soon offer our customers this fantastic phone on our network," Cellcom CEO Pat Riordan said in a statement.
"We're excited to be offering the amazing new iPhone 5 to our customers at an incredible value," said Jim Hyde, president and CEO for nTelos Wireless. "Now customers can couple the world’s most iconic device with our industry-leading, nationwide unlimited smartphone plans. The best value in wireless just keeps getting better."
