Cupertino-based consumer electronics giant Apple Inc has released the long awaited Mac OS X 10.6.8 update which is potentially the last major update in the 10.6 series.

The chief feature of the new update is that it will strengthen security and fix bugs in networking and other applications. The update will prepare Mac users for the forthcoming Mac OS X Lion which will be released in July. Lion will be available for $29 in the Mac Store.

The 10.6.8 update is now available for download, Brothersoft News reported.
