Science teacher James Drake compiled 600 images to create a time-elapsed 60 second video of what it feels like to fly around the world from space from the perspective of an astronaut.

The video captures the International Space Station's (ISS) night flight over Earth, showing what it would be like to travel the Earth in space. According to Discovery News, astronauts aboard the ISS see this view 14 times each day.

According to Drake, This movie begins over the Pacific Ocean and continues over North and South America before entering daylight near Antarctica. Visible cities, countries and landmarks include (in order) Vancouver Island, Victoria, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles. Phoenix. Multiple cities in Texas, New Mexico and Mexico. Mexico City, the Gulf of Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, Lightning in the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and the Amazon. Also visible is the earths ionosphere (thin yellow line) and the stars of our galaxy.

James Drake, professor of Physics as the University of Maryland, published the video using images from The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth. The video entitled, What does it feel like to fly over planet Earth? was posted on his blog, Infinity Imagined.
