The return of Ray Palmer (Colton Haynes, not pictured) will be emotional for Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards, pictured) in 'Arrow" Season 4. The CW

Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) rode off at the end of the "Arrow" Season 3 finale to live happily ever after, but fans know they will be back in Starling City to start Season 4. However, will they bring their new romantic bliss back with them? Executive Producer Wendy Mericle teased a development that could rain on the happy couple's parade in the big premiere.

Speaking to TVLine, Mericle talked about the return of Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh). Ray was thought to be dead at the end of Season 3 and, in fact, Felicity is slotted to take over for Ray at his old job -- CEO of Palmer Tech. However, Felicity and fans have not seen the last of Oliver's former sidekick. Will the return of Ray, who has had his fair share of romantic tension with the new Mrs. Arrow, shake things up for Felicity and Oliver?

“[It will be] a huge emotional reveal, especially for Felicity,” says Mericle. However, the producer said fans do not need to worry about Ray breaking up Olicity. “It’s more of an emotional reaction to the loss of a friend than any sort of romantic rival. She’s very happy with Oliver when we come back in Season 4, but [she and Ray] were friends and they left on good terms. It’s more just the relief of, ‘Oh my gosh, I thought you were gone and now you’re not. How exciting is that?'”

That's a relief! Olicity fans were also nervous last month when the CW cast 31-year-old actress Elysia Rotaru (“Supernatural," “iZombie") to join Season 4 in a recurring role as a love interest for Oliver, but this too was much ado about nothing as Rotaru's character's storyline takes place in flashbacks. “Oliver is going to have a love interest in the past that will serve as a parallel or potentially a contrast to his love affair with Felicity in the present,” executive producer Marc Giggenheim told Entertainment Weekly.
