As Arsenal’s performances continue to disappoint and their position in the Premier League drops ever lower, it appears that manager Arsene Wenger is considering all options to improve the club’s fortunes. A 2-0 at home to Swansea on Saturday caused further dissension among the Emirates faithful as the Gunners fell to 10th place in the league amid their worst start to the season since Wenger took charge.

There are reportedly significant funds for Wenger to improve his squad in the January transfer window and the majority of fans would appear eager for him to do just that.

There has again been speculation over the weekend about Arsenal’s interest in PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman. The Netherlands international, who is believed to be a long-time target of Manchester United, was watched by Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley as well as representatives from both United and Tottenham, during his side’s 3-1 victory over Ajax on Saturday, according to the Daily Mail.

Strootman, 22, captained his country in two World Cup qualifiers last month and is said to be valued at £20 million.

The Gunners have also been linked in a surprise swoop for veteran Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard. The 34-year-old will be out of contract in the summer and new Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez recently confirmed that he expects the England international to depart Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Lampard has been linked with a free transfer to the Los Angeles Galaxy but Wenger could try to lure him to the Emirates in January, according to the Daily Mirror. Whether a cut-price transfer for Lampard will placate Arsenal’s fans is doubtful, however.

A signing that is likely to excite supporters is a potential deal for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini. The powerful Belgian has become a target for Wenger, according to the Mirror. Fellaini, 25, has previously been linked with a £30 million move to Chelsea on the back of his continued fine performances for David Moyes’ side.

Arsenal’s form has noticeably tailed off since midfielder Abou Diaby suffered another in a long line of injuries and Fellaini could potentially add a physical, dynamic presence in the middle of the pitch. The £15 million signing from Standard Liege has already scored eight Premier League goals this season. Fellaini has previously hinted that he could be in a move to a bigger club, but he could fall out of Arsenal’s price range, especially if Chelsea get involved in a bidding war.

Wenger is also reportedly interesting in adding a goalkeeper to his ranks to compete with Wojciech Szczesny for a place between the posts. According to the Sun, Arsenal could reignite their interest in Liverpool’s Pepe Reina.

The Gunners are believed to have had a £20 million bid rejected for the Spain international in 2010, but could now test their resolve once more with a £10 million offer.

Reina, 30, has made several high-profile errors in recent times and the Sun claims that Brendan Rodgers is willing to listen to offers for the former Villarreal man.
