Libya leader Moammar Gaddafi has told the opposition government that he’s willing to give up power and leave the country if the safety of he and his family is guaranteed, reported Asharq Alawsat, citing sources in the city of Benghazi.

Specifically, he wants “assistance in leaving the country” and “guarantees that he would not be pursued, either internally or abroad, or brought to face international courts.”

The Libyan leader reportedly also wanted to keep his wealth.

Gaddafi reportedly made the offer via a negotiator he sent to Benghazi, the headquarter of the interim opposition government.

However, the source said the “general popular trend” of the opposition interim government is to “reject all negotiation and dialogue with Gaddafi, under any circumstances.”
