Da Vinci uncoded: Long-lost Leonardo painting discovered

The original version of a painting called Salvator Mundi (Saviour of the World), attributed to a disciple of Leonardo da Vinci, has been authenticated and found out to be the work of Renaissance painter himself.

The "lost and found" painting depicts Christ with his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand holding a globe.

Though a lot of versions depicting the similar subject has been painted, Leonardo da Vinci is believed to be the creator of the original version. According to an international group of experts who identified the Italian painter's work, Leonardo painted the subject for Louis XII of France between 1506 and 1513, about 500 years ago.

The painting remained in London for almost 400 years before it was sold for just £45, UK's Daily MailOnline reported.

The original painting will be exhibited at the National Gallery in London in November this year, along with Leonardo's other rare, surviving paintings.
