Michael Jackson and Charlie's Angels star Farrah Fawcett died in the same day with both leaving a legacy behind and many fans deeply saddened by the news.

The King of Pop, as he so famously came to be known as, died at age 50. He was preparing for a come back tour where he would perform a series of 50 concerts starting July 13 at London's 02 arena.

Jackson, under apparent cardiac arrest, was taken from his home by paramedics to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where a team of physicians tried to resuscitate him for more than an hour, officials said according to CNN.

Jackson's brother, Jermaine, said the music idol was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. (5:26 p.m. ET).

The news shocked fans and fellow celebrities all over the world, from California to Sydney.

I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news, Quincy Jones, who worked closely with Jackson on some of his most successful recordings.

Michael Jackson was one of the first black entertainers of the MTV generation to gain a big success on the music channel.

Fellow singer Celine Dion said in a statement, “I am shocked. I am overwhelmed by this tragedy. Michael Jackson has been an idol for me all my life.”

His 1982 album Thriller smashed records and was at the No. 1 spot for 37 weeks. To date, it has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.

Jackson's sudden death immediately evoked comparisons to that of Elvis Presley, who died at age 42 in 1977.

I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible, Lisa Marie Presley, who was previously married to Michael, said in a statement.

I am heartbroken for his children who I know were everything to him and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me.

Meanwhile, Farrah Fawcett died hours earlier on Thursday morning at a Santa Monica hospital.

Fawcett discovered she had anal cancer in 2006 and a year later was diagnosed with a malignant rectal polyp. Last month, she narrated and shot using her camcorder Farrah's Story, which looked at her 2 and a half year battle with cancer.
