An eel was removed from a man's penis in China following a spa visit where he had a highly controversial eel treatment to remove dead skin.

Zhang Nan ordered an eel treatment in a Chinese spa in hopes the removal of dead skin would make him look younger, according to Metro.co.

The 56-year-old was emerged in a spa bath filled with eels when one eel entered his penis.

I climbed into the bath and I could feel the eels nibbling my body. But then suddenly I felt a severe pain and realized a small eel had gone into the end of my penis, Nan told Metro.

Nan was unsuccessful inhibiting the slippery, 6-inch long eel from entering his penis underneath the water of the bath.

I tried to hold it and take it out, but the eel was too slippery to be held and it disappeared up my penis, he said.

Nan was rushed to the hospital where he underwent a three hour-long operation to remove the eel, which entered his bladder through the urethra. Surgeon Jin Wang said the eel was dead when it was removed.

The diameter of the urethra in a man's penis is just a little narrower, but because eels are quite slippery, its body worked as a lubricant and so it got into the penis smoothly, Wang told Metro.

Similar to a fish pedicure, when Doctor Fish nibble off dead skin from the body, eel treatments work the same way as a means of exfoliation. While eel treatments are uncommon in the U.S., fish treatments have been outlawed in most states, deemed unsanitary, according to the Wall Street Journal.
