The trailer for Angelina Jolie's directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, was released on Friday.

The film is centered around a love story between a Serbian rape camp administrator (Goran Kostic) and a Bosnian war victim (Zana Marjanovic) during the Bosnian War.

In the Land of Blood and Honey was shot in Eastern Europe during October 2010, and Jolie, who also wrote the script, employed local actors for the picture.

The film's first trailer comes almost six months after Jolie revealed the name of the film.

It's a heavy film . . . you want to find that title that really helps the audience know what they're walking into, she told Entertainment Weekly in May.

The film is about the experience that a lot of people, on all different sides, have as war takes its toll . . . a couple that maybe would have lived a certain life, had the war not begun, end up having a very different story because of the war, she added.

While the picture marks the feature directorial debut for the 36-year-old, Jolie has been behind the camera before.

In 2007, Jolie directed the documentary A Place in Time, an experimental project that captures three minutes across the world, edited to a 70-minute story that features fellow celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Djimon Hounsou and Olivier Martinez.

Shot in October 2010, In the Land of Blood and Honey will have two versions - English and BCS (Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian).

Centered around the tagline, Love can change what we want; war can change who we are, the trailer weaves a haunting piano score with scenes of romance, betrayal, violence and piercing sounds of gun shots.

The English version of the film arrives in U.S theaters on Dec. 23.
