Less is more, as the maxim goes.

But when you're a celebrity who is expected to pile on greasepaint, it's tough to rock a fresh face sans cosmetics out in public.

Snooki recently posted a photo of herself without makeup, rocking a fresh face without the pouf or her signature raccoon eyes. We see celebrities and supermodels, like Miranda Kerr and Kim Kardashian, claiming to be wearing no makeup in the spreads of supermarket tabloids all of the time, but how do they look so fabulous while still going au natural?

Stars typically have an army of stylists, hair and makeup artists and manicurists on hand, not to mention the array of pricey cosmetics, flattering studio lighting, and airbrushing, even for those natural looks.

But how can a person achieve this at home? Here are eight steps to rock a fresh face and look good without makeup.

1. Exfoliate

Washing your face daily obviously helps appear more fresh-faced, but exfoliating really wipes away nasty particles, dirt and grime that get clogged in your pores in addition to unwanted blackheads and acne. You don't have to buy an expensive device to do it, as there are many products on the market at drugstores to exfoliate, including washes and creams. However, it's important not to scrub too hard or too deeply, as it can cause redness and irritate your face.

2. Moisturize

According to famed-makeup artist and cosmetics CEO Bobbi Brown, Moisturizing is the key to keeping your skin looking healthy and young- It's never too early to start! Many moisturizers nowadays come in tints, which means you can skip the foundation and primer for a three-in-one solution to even out skin. For those with oily skin or don't like the greasy feel of moisturizer, there are many lightweight moisturizers out there, like Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture with SPF 15.

3. Trim and Shape Eyebrows

Eyebrows are the frame of the face, and a photo hanging on a wall without a frame simply never looks as good as a framed picture. Having neatly-coiffed eyebrows is a key to look natural without feeling unpolished. If you're afraid to tweeze or wax at home, the best thing to do is head to a professional. Threading has become the latest trend brought from the Eastern world, a process of using a cotton thread to roll over and pluck unwanted hair from the follicle. For those daring enough to try tweezing at home, use a white eyeliner pencil or a stencil to trace the area so you don't pluck outside the lines.

4. Drink Water

It's proven that drinking water daily not only is good for your general health, but actually improves skin complexion. The suggested amount to feel hydrated on the inside, as well as on the outside, is 5-8 glasses per day.

5. Get Some Sun

According to studies at Stanford University, getting sun is actually healthy for the skin, but only in small doses.Sunlight triggers the synthesis of vitamin D within the body which allows the skin to repair damaged cells, for a great complexion. However, you should always use sunscreen and reapply every two hours, even in the winter.

6. Eat Healthy

Just like drinking water, having a healthy diet certainly promotes good skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, research suggests that eating whole grains, lean proteins, fruit and vegetables and any foods rich in vitamin C significantly gives younger looking, healthy skin.

7. Use Less

If no one can see you're even wearing makeup, you can simply just lie and say you're not wearing any! However, you must know how to apply properly to appear au natural. Mix your regular foundation with some lotion and apply a light coat. Apply clear mascara to elongate lashes. Pinch the apples of your cheeks or take a quick walk or jog for some flush to your face. Dab on some clear lip gloss or lip balm, and Voila! The no makeup look.

8. Sleep

Sleep definitely improves the condition of your skin; The more hours you devote to sleep, the less amount of fine lines, dark circles and spots you'll have the next day. Professor of Dermatology at Saint Louis University, Dee Anna Glaser, M.D., told CNN that sleeping on your back is the best position, as it prevents wrinkles without a pillow pressing against your face.
