Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscars 2012 red carpet look was surely one of the most coveted of the night. The actress stepped out in a stark white Tom Ford gown with matching cape, glittering Anna Hu platinum jewels and gold Jimmy Choo Koko Platform Sandals. She had skin by St. Tropez done by makeup artist Leslie Lopez, according to JustJared.

The actress made jaws drop, not only because of how stunning she looked but also because of the exclusivity of Tom Ford's Fall 2012 collection. According to Fashionista, the designer was not even scheduled to show at London Fashion Week. He revealed his collection via private appointments and those lucky enough to catch a glimpse did not even so much as tweet a pic.

Ford lamented to The Telegraph about the current state of red carpet fashion. No one wants to take any risks. It's all about a strapless dress, a fishtail hem, some borrowed and pretty hair. And who can blame them with the fashion police on the prowl? he said.

His body-hugging, white column gown with matching floor-length cape went against the grain and beat the odds. Ford told Vogue UK that nobody would be brave enough to wear one of his gowns; but Gwyneth, well, she beat those odds, too.

Gwyneth Paltrow was the talk of the town and the toast of the Oscars on Sunday night. If you look up best dressed in the dictionary you will see this picture of Gwyneth Paltrow. Her white Tom Ford gown with a built in cape is everything! This is going to be a look that goes down in Oscar red carpet history! said celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

Here is how to recreate Gwyneth Paltrow's 2012 Oscars red carpet look.

White Column Gown with Cape

Tom Ford's Fall 2012 might have been available for the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, but it is currently unavailable for mere mortals. And, let's be honest, not many of us mortals can afford it anyway. However, it is easy to recreate the timeless look inspired by Ford.

If you want to piece together the gown the cape, use a white column gown as your foundation. Ports 1961 Draped Column Gown with Brooch (ShopBop, $417) has a similar fit to the one Paltrow wore.

As for the white cape, this piece will be a bit harder to find. From Somewhere's white cape (YOOX, $856) has a looser fit than Ford's but would look equally as chic. Cameo Silver's Train Cape (Boutique to You, $174) is shorter than Ford's but has the same sharp shoulders and slim fit.

For a more casual version of Tom Ford's ensemble for Gwyneth Paltrow try River Island's Split Sleeve Dress (ASOS, $63.56) which has a cape built in. Aqua Perseus' One-Shoulder Full Cape Dress (ASOS, $191.58) also has a cape built in but this one is fuller, coming over the chest and gown to the waist in the front.

Silver Jewelry

Gwyneth Paltrow complemented her Tom Ford outfit with silver jewelry by Anna Hu. The large, silver cuff with diamonds coincided with the streamlined look of the dress. The flower blossom ring added a fun, flirty touch.

Of course you can contact Anna Hu to buy the exact jewelry; but for those looking to err on the more fiscally-conservative side, we have ideas for you.

Tiffany & Co's Tiffany 1837 Cuff (Tiffany, $1250) is a solid sterling silver version of Paltrow's. Philippe Audibert's Silver-Plated Cuff with Swarovski Crystals (StyleBop.com, $1595) is a bedazzled version most appropriate with cocktail attire. Make sure to get a solid cuff with substantial length. This will keep the look more classic than trendy.

Paltrow's flower blossom ring brought a coquettish flair to her red carpet ensemble. The silver flower blossoms were studded with brilliant white diamonds, a piece Hu is renowned for. Look for pointier petals and a silver solid finish to avoid looking childish. Rounded petals and multicolored accents will look cheap. Noir Jewelry's Flower Ring (Zappos, $78.99) and Guess' Flower Ring (Zappos, $28) are both pretty options.

Sparkling Gold Heels

Gwyneth Paltrow completed her look with sparkling gold Jimmy Choo Koko Platform Sandals. The platform heel, crisscrossed straps and glittering sheen make the shoes particularly beautiful. If you want to buy Paltrow's exact shoes, Net-a-porter has the Jimmy Choo Koko Metallic Leather and Suede Sandals available for purchase (netaporter.com, $1150).

If you want to opt for a cheaper version, there are multiple options. Alice and Olivia's Lansey Glitter-Coated Metallic Leather Peep Toe Platform Sandals (Neiman Marcus, $295) have the same gold sheen and platform heel. Liliana's Muses-11 Ankle-Strap Sandal (endless.com, $27.37) and Charlotte Russe's Glittery Cutout Platform Heel (Charlotte Russe, $17.99) are two great, very inexpensive pairs.
