More than a dozen of EA's games will lose any kind of online support as the company has announced that it will be shutting down the servers of as many as 15 console games and their iOS counterparts March 31, it has been reported.

The list of the games includes EA Sports MMA which is one of the major games when EA's online passes are taken into account. This, on EA's part, is a shock as the online modes were considered to be a lifeline for the older titles released by the developers.

The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy. The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired. But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles to a level -- fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles -- where it's no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running, the official EA page said.

We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we appreciate your ongoing patronage, the page added.

Moreover, EA Bright Light's Spare Parts is also set to lose online support although it has only been in digital stores since January 2011.

Previously, EA announced that starting January 18, 2012, the company would switch users from game-specific virtual currencies to a common currency in four Play4Free games. They also said that existing balances in the current currencies would be converted into the new common currency - called Play4Free Funds.

Here is the list of games:
