Whitney Houston's former husband Bobby Brown has often been slammed for introducing her to narcotics, ever since the legendary singer passed away in February this year from sedative drugs; however, the R&B singer broke his silence for the first time to clarify that Whitney's death was not his fault.

Brown opened up on his ex-wife Whitney Houston's death in a candid interview with Today that will air in the US on Wednesday.

Houston's family clearly blamed Bobby for her downfall and drug addiction that led to her untimely death. The 48-year-old singer was a chronic cocaine addict and traces of marijuana and other drugs were also found in her system after she was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel, drowned in the bathtub, ahead of the Grammy Awards function.

Nearly two months after the tragedy, Brown has knocked back the claims, saying he wasn't the one who got Whitney on drugs at all.

It's just unexplainable how one could, [say that I] got her addicted to drugs. I'm not the reason she's gone, he told Matt Lauer of the Today Show.

I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I didn't get high [on narcotics] before I met Whitney, Brown asserted adding that Houston was already into drugs way way before they got together and married in 1993.

Brown also revealed that for seven years, after the couple separated in 2007, he was unaware that Houston was struggling with narcotics. He thought she would have quit just like him.

The R&B singer, who said he was very much clean and sober from narcotics, was shattered to hear about her demise.

I was hurt because me being off of narcotics for the last seven years, I felt that she was... I didn't know she was struggling with it still.

At the same time, listen, it's a hard fight. It's a hard fight to maintain sobriety that way, he added.

He said it feels terrible to hear fans, people close to Whitney say her life went downhill when she met Bobby Brown.

It makes me feel terrible, he said. I heard it a hundred times, and I know you heard it too... How does it make you feel when you hear it?

Meanwhile, Brown recalled the moment when he last met Whitney, nearly a week before she died.

She had this glow about her that was just incredible, he said. I'm saying to myself, 'She must be doing really well,' because she looked really well.... she looked like she was in a good place.

He further said that despite a bitter divorce after 14 years of marriage and daughter Bobby Kristina, he loved Houston and the couple had shared a blissful time while they were together.

I can honestly say that I love that woman with...everything that I am, Brown said. And I believe she loved me the same way. We wouldn't have been able to make the most beautiful girl in the world without love. And that's the truth.

He said, If anyone ever knew us, if anybody ever spent time around us... they would know how we felt about each other. They would know how happy we were together.

Brown admitted that their reality show Being Bobby Brown gave us a wake-up, because we saw each other in-we looked at the bubble and saw ourselves.

The 43-year-old said, We were able to see what other people were saying about us, you know? We were able to see that our drug use had affected our relationship, had affected the love that we felt for each other.

The singer talked about his and Houston's relationship, troubles, drug addiction, their daughter and several serious issues at length on the Today Show.

The second part of Brown's interview with Matt Lauer, along with the singer's three children, Landon, Bobby and La'Princia, will air on Thursday on the US network NBC, Daily Mail reported.
