The Atlanta Police Department is trying to catch three smash-and-grab robbers who stole hair weaves from an east Atlanta beauty supply business.

The Virgin Hair & Remy Extension store in east Atlanta was burglarized early Tuesday morning, with the thieves smashing the storefront with a pickup truck and taking the pricey hair pieces.

It’s unclear how much the stolen hair weaves were worth, but the Virgin & Remy Hair Extension store was robbed around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Atlanta Police Department Capt. Tim Peek told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police are expected to use surveillance video from the business in hopes of catching the robbers.

The beauty supply store sells items other than weaves, but the thieves appeared to have specifically targeted the hair extension.

“The only thing that appears to have been taken was hair,” Peek said.

Dennis McKinley, the owner of Virgin Hair & Remy Extension, said he believed the robbers targeted his business because weaves are lucrative products.

“The bad part is they didn’t even really take much,” McKinley told the Journal-Constitution, adding that he was relieved that the robbery took part in the early morning hours when his employees were not in the store. “We’ll be closed for a while.”

McKinley said there was no way to stop the robbers if they were determined enough to steal weaves from his business.

“If they want to get in there, you can have three big walls and they’ll find a way to get in,” he said.
