Defending champions Barcelona became the first team to qualify for the knock-out rounds with a 4-0 win at Viktoria Plzen in the Uefa Champions League.

Lionel Messi scored his 22nd goal of the season with his hat-trick against the ten-man Czech side who were blown away after Marian Cisovsky was sent off for a foul on the Argentine in the 22nd minute.

Messi opened the scoring from the spot, through the resultant penalty, before scoring his second during injury time in the first half. Cesc Fabregas made it three on 72 minutes before Messi scored another injury time goal to complete his hat-trick and guarantee his team a spot in the last-16 phase of the tournament.
