Barclays today announced that it had renewed its global title sponsorship of the Premier League. The deal is worth £65.8 million and runs from the 2007/08 season till the 2009/10 season.

Barclays will also be sponsoring the Premier League's official Pre Season Tournament, the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Bob Diamond, the Barclays President said in a statement, "I see the sponsorship of the world's best football league as a major strategic investment. We all know about the fantastic appeal of the Barclays Premiership in the UK but this sponsorship also fits our international presence and aspirations particularly in Asia and continental Europe. It provides us with powerful brand visibility in the many markets around the world in which we operate.'

When the new deal runs out, Barclays will have been the sponsors of the Premier League for nine years.

The Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore said in a statement, "Barclays commitment to the Premier League has been unstinting and this latest deal will make Barclays Group our longest serving title sponsor. In that time the Premier League has continued to grow and develop both domestically and internationally.'
