Though they’ve made more of an effort to meet on the Champions League stage, European powers Bayern Munich and Inter Milan will clash in International Champions Cup play Saturday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Munich attacking midfielder Mario Gotze proved the difference in friendly action last summer, powering the match’s only goal in the 80th minute for a 1-0 victory, but it did little to erase Inter’s success on a much bigger stage.

Inter took the last meeting against Bundesliga’s Munich in the UCL Round of 16 3-3 on aggregate back in 2011, and one year before that bested Germany’s most renowned and dominate squad in the final 2-0 for the European crown.

New Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti, hired after Pep Guardiola went off to Manchester City earlier this summer, is still tinkering with his roster and has had some uneven success during the preseason. Bayern notched a 1-0 victory over City and Guardiola, but succumbed to Inter’s main rival, AC Milan, on penalties 5-3 Thursday.

Despite the match lacking major significance, Ancelotti did start several of his top stars including Philipp Lahm and Xabi Alonso, but midfielder Arturo Vidal sat out against AC Milan and Ancelotti will likely practice caution with him before domestic league play begins.

Inter, meanwhile, are coming off a fourth-place showing in Serie A (13 points back of third place and 24 behind first-place Juventus) last term and manager Roberto Mancini is preparing his club for a much better showing at home.

Inter last played Ligue 1’s Paris Saint-Germain last Sunday, losing 3-1 after surrendering a brace to Serge Aurier with goals in the first and last 15 minutes of the ICC match.

As the two titans prepare for action, American fans can still find tickets to the match on the secondary market. According to StubHub.com, seats are available for as little as $32 or as much as $156.
