Forget your plans for Thursday night, as better things have come along.

No, really, FX’s “Better Things” is back with its Season 2 premiere at 10 p.m. on Thursday and there’s no better place to be than in front of the TV watching it.

The dramedy sitcom, created by Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K. about a single actress mother taking care of her three daughters in Los Angeles, is ready for round two. But before the new 10-episode season begins, here’s a little recap of where we left off.

“Better Things” returns for its second season on Thursday night. FX

When we last left Sam Fox (Adlon) and her three daughters – Max (Mikey Madison), Frankie (Hannah Alligood), Duke (Olivia Edward) - at the end of season 1, there was still a lot of chaos, but also a lot of heart. After Sam had left for work, she got a call from Frankie’s principal saying that she’s in trouble for using the boys’ bathroom. Sam picks Frankie up, but before she can ask her about the situation, her daughter tells her that she didn’t use the bathroom because she’s a boy, but because she thinks middle school girls are gross and she wanted to use a different bathroom.

Sam doesn’t question this reasoning and just accepts it at face value. It isn’t until later, when she’s discussing the situation with another daughter, Max, that Frankie’s true reasoning is reviewed. “Mom,” Max said. “Frankie’s a boy.” This hit Sam and had her questioning it all, though the realization of what she said didn’t seem to come as too much of a shock. Though, this doesn’t mean it’s truly how Frankie feels, as she never comes out and says that during the episode.

In Season 2, the show will once again bring up Frankie’s orientation and go a little deeper into that storyline, Adlon told Vulture.

And that brings us to Thursday night, when the breakout FX sitcom returns. Sam is still raising her three girls as a single mother while trying to balance it all with her work as an actress. Her daughters a still giving her lots of trouble and being smart-mouths, because they were raised by her, after all. She’s still looking after her mother, Phil (Celia Imrie), and trying to find some sense of a private life between it all. And that’s exactly how Adlon wants it to be, as she’s the show’s singular director of all 10 episodes this season. She’s also continue to write many of the episodes, along with the show’s co-creator, C.K.

The first episode the audience will get to see of the second season is entitled “September,” and will focus on the antics that occur when Sam decides to have people over. The 25-minute season premiere will bring the same sense of humor and realness that fans have become accustomed to after watching the first season.

For those who are new to the world of “Better Things,” the first season can be binged on Hulu before watching the Season 2 premiere on FX on Thursday at 10 p.m. EDT.
