For the men of CBS' "The Big Bang Theory," approaching women has never been easy. Sure, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) is married to Penny (Kaley Cuoco) now, but his clumsiness in courting his eventual bride made up much of the early season's comedy. Meanwhile, episode 5 was a reminder that Sheldon (Jim Parson), newly single, has no game at all. That makes Stephen Merchant, who created and starred in an entire HBO series based on one character's ineptitude on the dating scene -- "Hello Ladies" -- the perfect guest star.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the original "Office" co-creator will guest star in episode 6 of the CBS series' ongoing Season 9, "The Helium Insufficiency." The show has not released any details on the exact nature of the role, but rumor has it Merchant will be courting Sheldon's ex.

According to the synopsis for the new episode, Amy (Mayim Bialik) will be getting back into the dating game with some help from Penny, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Tinder! Well, not exactly, but the gang will suggest Amy try out a new mobile dating app in the hopes of finding a new boyfriend. The Merchant cameo would lead one to assume that Amy will be swiping right on Merchant's character, listed on IMDb as "Dave."

However, Merchant could still fill another role on the show. The synopsis also reveals that Sheldon and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) suspect someone is trying to steal their idea for Superfluid Helium. Who is the devious criminal? The synopsis does not out the thief. Could it be Dave?
