A large “Black Lives Matter” mural will be painted along one entire block outside of the Trump Tower in Manhattan, New York City, and reportedly was planned by Mayor Bill de Blasio himself.

According to reports, the mural will comprise bright yellow block letters and will exist between 56th and 57th streets on Fifth Avenue before July 4, when they expect Trump will visit his building.

De Blasio apparently chose the location when he announced plans in early June to install murals, one in each New York City’s borough, amid the heated protests triggered by the death of George Floyd, a Black man, at the hands of police.

“It’s time to do something officially representing this city to recognize the power of the fundamental idea, Black Lives Matter — the idea that so much American history has wrongly renounced but now must be affirmed,” the mayor said in his announcement on June 9.

De Blasio’s staff apparently discussed these murals with the Department of Transportation after a meeting with community leaders and activists. Sources said the idea inspired De Blasio after he saw the protesters’ battle cry painted on the streets near the White House and he wanted to replicate the message.

“Obviously he is doing it to antagonize the president,” a source said via the New York Post. "This is what he is concerned about while the city burns. What an amateur politician.”

The mayor's office doesn't deny that De Blasio wants Trump to see the mural.

"The President is a disgrace to the values we cherish in New York City,” Julia Arredondo, the spokesperson from De Blasio's office said. “He can’t run or deny the reality we are facing, and any time he wants to set foot in the place he claims is his hometown, he should be reminded Black Lives Matter."

They expect seven other Black Lives Matter murals to pop up in New York City. The first three will appear on Centre Street in Lower Manhattan, Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard in Harlem and the Trump Tower site.
