Bloom Box: What is it? What are its downfalls?

Bloom Energy, a San Francisco based energy company, unveiled a refrigerator-sized personal power plant that produces energy cheaply and cleanly and may one day replace the traditional power grid.

The Bloom Box product is a huge box of fuel cells that it hopes will allow homes and businesses to generate their own electricity.

What does it promise to do? The fuel cells promise to produce more power—with less environmental damage—than others on the market.

What are potential downfalls? Analysts warn that the technology has yet to be widely proven, and that little is still publicly known about the long-term costs of owning a Bloom Box.
