A powerful bomb exploded near a restaurant in a northwestern Pakistani tribal region near the Afghan border killing eight tribesmen and wounding 10 others, local media reported.

“The attack happened in the Salarzi area of Bajur tribal region in Pakistan. There were some pro-government elder who died in the attack,” Israr Khan a local government official told local media.

Khan said the bomb was apparently planted inside a restaurant.

“We received four bodies and four others died at our hospital. We are also treating injured people, some of them are in critical condition,” Doctor Mohammed Saeed said.

The motive of the attack is not known yet and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The Bajur region is a stronghold of militants and several attacks and increasing violence is reported in the area since last year.
