Things have not been easy lately for Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) on “Bones.” Even after Brennan got Booth out of prison in the Season 10 premiere of the hit Fox show, Booth struggled with PTSD from the Season 9 betrayals and shootout. Plus, they still have not solved the conspiracy case that put him in jail in the first place. However, the synopsis for the next episode, “The Lance to the Heart,” reveals that they are getting close.

Of course, Booth and Brennan will also be dealing with the death of Lance Sweets (John Francis Daley) from the Season 10 premiere episode. Sweets was killed retrieving documents for Booth that he thought might lead to a break in the case. As if Booth wasn’t dealing with enough with his Season 9 PTSD, the promo for “The Lance in the Heart” shows that he blames himself for the fan-favorite character's death.

Watch the promo for “The Lance in the Heart” below:

If Booth wants to keep anyone else from dying, he will have to solve the case. According to the synopsis for the next episode, Brennan and her team and the Jeffersonian Institute will find someone else’s DNA on the remains of a victim tied to the conspiracy case. This new information will help Booth and Brennan narrow down the suspects. Are they talking about the remains of Lance Sweets? In the last scene of the premiere Brennan was about to examine Sweets’ body with the Jeffersonian team.

Booth and Brennan will also continue working with James Aubrey (John Boyd) on the case. Aubrey was initially ordered by Director Stark (Sterling Macer Jr.) to follow Booth, but he later told Booth that Stark was in on the conspiracy and that he was on their side. Can Booth trust Aubrey?

The stakes are higher now with one of their own dead. Can Booth and Brennan solve the case before anyone else gets killed? Fans will have to tune in next week to find out. "Bones" Season 10 episode 2 will air Thursday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox. How do you feel about Sweets’ death? Tweet your thoughts to @Ja9GarofaloTV
