Brent crude futures extended gains to $1 and U.S. crude turned higher in choppy trading on Wednesday, as a large drop in weekly U.S. distillate inventories seemed to trump a rise in crude and gasoline stocks.

ICE Brent July crude rose $1.60 to $114.13 a barrel by 11:09 a.m. EDT (1409 GMT), trading from $111.14 to $114.25.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, the July crude contract rose 60 cents to $100.19 a barrel, trading from $98.20 to $100.28. Heating oil futures led gains, while gasoline traded lower.
