According to Sarah Palin, her daughter Bristol Palin and her new husband, Dakota Meyer, kept their wedding “very, very hush hush” on purpose. The former Alaska governor opened up about Bristol’s surprise nuptials last month revealing that the pair were determined to do things there way the second time around.

“This go ‘round they’re just like we’re just going to do our thing,” she told E! News, adding that the first time Bristol and Meyer were planning their wedding things were “hyped.” She added: “It was a year after they had called off the initial celebration, so like Dakota says, ‘We’re just a little late!’”

Sarah went on to say that things were “all good,” and she couldn’t be happier that Meyer is her new son-in-law. “They have a beautiful baby girl, Sailor, and it’s great,” she said. “I love having a new son-in-law. He’s a wonderful young man. Medal of Honor winner; such a patriot! I love Dakota.”

The 25-year-old mom of two and Meyer got married at the beginning of June. “Life is full of ups and downs, but in the end, you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be,” a joint statement via “Entertainment Tonight” read. “We are so happy to share with loved ones the wonderful news that we got married!”

They added: “Hard work and God’s grace are the foundation of our new life together, and with the love and support of our family, we know we can get through anything.”

Meyer and Bristol first got engaged in March 2015 but called off the engagement a few days before they were set to wed in May. One month after announcing the split, Bristol revealed that she was pregnant with her second child. At first Bristol, who has a 7-year-old son named Tripp from a previous relationship, didn’t reveal who the father of her second baby was but Meyer confirmed the news shortly after she gave birth to their daughter in December. “Best Christmas present ever!! I couldn’t be more proud of this little blessing,” he captioned a photo of her holding the newborn.

Since getting married, Meyer and Bristol have been posting lovey-dovey messages about each other on social media. Last week, Dakota shared a picture of them together, writing: “I choose you. And I’ll choose you, over and over and over. Without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat. I’ll keep choosing you no matter what. #myworld @bsmp2.”
