A British woman, now identified as Jessica Davies, who jumped from a hotel balcony to avoid being raped by the hotel’s owner in India, claimed she yelled for help for more than an hour before resorting to that drastic measure. The tourist jumped from the third floor and was treated for injuries suffered during the fall.

As previously reported by IBTimes, the 31-year-old woman was staying at a hotel in the city of Agra, near the Taj Mahal and a popular tourist destination. The woman had asked for a wake-up call at 4 a.m. but the owner knocked on her door at the scheduled time, offered her a massage and, despite repeated rebuffs, refused to leave. The woman jumped to the balcony one story below her room in her attempt to escape a sexual assault.

Senior police superintendent Subhah Chandra Dubey said the hotel owner was in custody while the man claimed he had only gone to the woman’s room after failed attempts to reach her by the hotel’s staff. Davies, recalling the incident in an interview with BBC, said that she had to use furniture to act as a barricade in order to prevent two men from entering her hotel room. Davies said she had placed her key inside the door’s lock but “could feel them turning it from the other side,” notes BBC.

Davies, who denies that she wanted a wake-up call, was to catch an early train to Jaipur when she heard the knock at her door at 3:45 a.m. The owner asked if she wanted a massage, even presenting oils to Davies, notes the BBC. After barricading the door, she proceeded to kick and yell for help, for roughly one hour and 15 minutes, before jumping. In BBC Indian television interview, two Belgian tourists who stay at the hotel claims they heard banging noises for more than an hour.

"By hook or by crook this person -- or persons -- were going to get into my room. I'm 100 percent certain. And there was only one way out, to jump two floors,” Davies said to BBC. Davies ran from the hotel and was helped to the police department by a passing rickshaw driver; she claims she’ll never travel alone again following this incident.
