A woman from the Brownsville section of Brooklyn was allegedly stabbed by her own son on Sunday in front of her granddaughter, 5, and grandson, 1.

Around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday night, police officers responded to a 911 call that a woman had been stabbed inside her 358 Legion Street residence. The police discovered that Churminline Ward, 47, had multiple stab wounds on her body.

My son is trying to hurt me! said one neighbor, according to the Daily News. I heard the mother moaning.

Ward was then transported to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to ABC New York. Her 20-year-old son was taken into custody by police.

Ward's grandchildren were also taken to Brookdale hospital, but did not appear to have sustained any injuries. Charges are pending against the son.

She was a very nice lady, the neighbor said, according to Daily News. She was over at my house for Thanksgiving.
