All My Children signed off from ABC on Friday after more than 4 decades.

The show that helped launch the careers of many including Susan Lucci was brought to a close after 41 years on air with the final broadcast episode of the venerable ABC soap opera aired today.

In the final episode many of the characters in the show were gathered at the Chandler house in Pine Valley.

All My Children debuted on Jan. 5, 1970. Lucci is most known for portraying Erica Kane in the show. She was nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her work on All My Children many times before finally winning in 1999. All through most of the 1980s and into the early 1990s, All My Children was the no. 2 daytime soap opera on the air.

ABC announced it was pulling the plug on the show back in April, along with the soap opera One Life to Live, which will end its run in January. Combination of decline in ratings in all of daytime television and the departures of longtime actors were reasons given for the decision.
