Caitlyn Jenner made a big splash when she introduced herself to the world on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine earlier this week. The 65-year-old reality star broke the Internet, so to speak, sending social media users into a frenzy. While most people were buzzing about Jenner's looks, many couldn’t help but discuss the star’s unique new moniker.

In her interview, Jenner – formerly known as Bruce – revealed that choosing a new name was “one of the hardest things” she's ever had to do. The former Olympian told the fashion magazine she spent tons of time thinking about it, eventually looking to the famed Miss America pageants for inspiration with little luck. She briefly considered the names Heather and Cathy, but wasn’t quite sold on either. Jenner said she had always had a fondness for the name Caitlyn, which is a common Irish name meaning pure. It wasn’t until her assistant Rhonda mentioned out of the blue one day that she also liked the name that it stuck.

After deciding what she would go by, Jenner was faced with yet another tough choice – would she follow in the footsteps of her famous family by spelling the name with a “K,” or stand out with a “C”? She ultimately decided it was time for her to branch out on her own, opting to go with the latter. As we previoulsy reported, a source said the decision was not made due to tension between her and the Kardashian family, but rather as a way to set herself apart in the media.

Jenner will make her first television appearance since deciding to live publicly as a woman on her very own E! documentary series. The show, titled “I Am Cait,” will give viewers a glimpse into her daily life. Previews for the series show Jenner applying makeup at home while discussing the pressure she, and other women in the public eye, face to look their best at all times.

“I Am Cait” premieres Sunday, July 26, at 9 p.m. EDT on E!
