In what is dubbed as the deadliest US school shooting spree in five years since the Virginia Tech Massacre of 2007, a gunman opened fire at a private Christian college in Oakland, California, killing at least seven college students and wounding three others, Monday morning.

The suspect, a 43-year-old Korean-American man, identified as One Goh, surrendered at a Safeway grocery store several miles away from the shooting scene at Oikos University an hour later, Oakland Police Public Information Officer Johnna Watson said at a press briefing.

The shooting incident at Oikos University has occurred just days before the fifth anniversary of the Virginia Tech Massacre. On April 16, 2007, a Virginia Tech senior Cho Seung-Hui opened fire on students and staff at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, killing 32 people in an apparently pre-planned carnage.

Oakland city officials said they believed Goh, a former student at Oikos University, had acted alone in the mid-morning shooting at the university but did not know the motive for the rampage, according to a Reuters report.
