In less than two weeks “Castle” will return with the second half of Season 7. The midseason premiere of the ABC series will kick off with episode 11, “P.I.,” an episode that will turn the show’s longtime dynamic on its head. The synopsis reveals that with Castle (Nathan Fillion) banned from working with his new wife Beckett (Stana Katic) and the police force, he will start work as a private investigator.

According to Spoiler TV's synopsis, Castle will get a P.I. license and surprise Beckett at her own crime scene. He hopes that by doing so, he will be able to work the case alongside of her, circumventing his ban from the 12th precinct. But unfortunately for Castle, things will not go as the scheming writer planned. In fact, a competition may even develop between Castle and Beckett to see who can solve the case first.

“Castle” executive producer David Amann previously told TVLine, "He will attempt to run a parallel track with her -- and of course it will not go entirely smoothly, especially since this is his first case ever as a private investigator.”

Amann also addressed the other big takeaway from the midseason finale -- namely, the relationship between Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Lanie (Tamala Jones). Things were looking up for the on-again/off-again couple as they appeared to be engaged only a couple episodes after that subway hostage crisis forced them to reconsider their feelings for each other. In the finale, however, the couple decided to just be friends.

Amann said, “It’s good for our show when not everybody is settled down. So, we wanted to be able to keep them a bit footloose and fancy-free.”

How will Castle fare as a P.I.? And how will Beckett handle her banned husband hanging around her crime scene? Plus, will Esposito and Lanie stay just friends? Fans will have to wait for Season 7 of “Castle” to return on Monday, Jan. 12, at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
