Remember when contract chaos had "Castle" fans questioning if Season 7 was going to be the last for Stana Katic in the hit ABC series? Well, luckily that was not the case. In fact, according to the show's star, the upcoming eighth season will be the biggest one for her character yet as things get "cosmic" for newlyweds Kate Beckett (Katic) and Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion).

Speaking to Deadline Hollywood, Katic previewed the two-episode premiere that will kick off Season 8 on Sept. 21. Apparently, there will be a major event in the episodes. One of the hours will focus on the event from Castle's perspective, while the second will give viewers Beckett's side of the story. Plus, Katic promises that the event "shifts the entire season into a higher velocity." Could this have something to do with the news that she had been vetted to run for the New York State Senate in the Season 7 finale? Perhaps, but Katic could also be teasing something even bigger.

“Part of the exciting thing about this season is the way [Showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter] have envisioned the cosmic version of why the two characters (Castle and Beckett) have come together, how did these roads combine," Katic told Deadline Hollywood. "It delves into the mythology of Rick’s disappearance and memory loss as well as into what inspired Beckett to become a cop in the first place.”

Whatever happens to Beckett, it will be a welcome treat for fans who had been fearing that Katic would not return to the show at all. At the time of the Season 7 finale, though “Castle” had been renewed for an eighth season and co-star Nathan Fillion had signed on to return as mystery writer Rick Castle, Katic was still entangled in contract negotiations, leaving her fate unclear. The Season 7 finale did not do anxious viewers any favors, leaving the character’s fate very open ended in case she did not come back for another year. However, the day after the finale, ABC announced that Katic had signed a new contract to return, according to US Weekly.

What will viewers learn about Castle and Beckett in the Season 8 premiere? Fans will have to wait to find out. "Castle" will return to ABC for the two-episode premiere on Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. EDT.
